A council trial running 14 October 2025 to 13 October 2027 (extended from the original 13 October 2026 end date). Off-leash access, Monday to Sunday: 5:30am–10am and 5pm–9pm during daylight saving; 6am–10am and 4pm–7pm outside daylight saving. Dogs must be on a leash on the two access pathways from South Mona Vale Headland Reserve, and are prohibited in the trial area at all other times and everywhere else on Mona Vale Beach.
The vibe
Most Northern Beaches ocean beaches don't permit dogs at all, even on-leash. The southern end of Mona Vale Beach is a rare exception: a timed off-leash trial letting dogs run, swim and dig in the sand at each end of the day.
Good to know before you go
Still a trial, not a permanent declaration: unless Council resolves otherwise, dogs will be prohibited in the area at all times after 13 October 2027. The beach is not patrolled by lifeguards, up to 4 dogs per person, and dogs need a collar and name tag. Waste bags are at the headland reserve, not on the beach.
